The Quarterly 2012
Ms Mavis Chan
Administrative Support

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Information Technology from Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Higher Diploma of Internet Computing and Applications from Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (HKIVE).

I gained experience at HK College of Community Medicine as an Administrative Assistant, mainly processing applications, liaising with members, and drafting monthly financial reports and statistics. I also helped with conference and office administration, to maintain the college website, and at organisation and support meetings. I worked prior to that at the Labour Department as the Employment Officer mainly assisting job seekers to find suitable positions of employment.

I moved to Australia on a one-year working holiday visa. With dedication and determination I completed three months of agricultural work enabling me to extend my visa an extra year. Farm-work was a rewarding experience and challenge, and facilitated the extension of my stay. Throughout my two years in Australia I have worked various jobs of differing natures, experiencing new situations and facing challenges time and time again.

Such experiences have allowed for a development of my character, which has improved greatly. Often outside my comfort zone, I have learnt so much, and am always hungry to learn more. My enthusiasm for knowledge is enabled by a hard working and can-do attitude. Outside of my working life I enjoy music, hiking, diving, kayaking, camping, as well as running. I also enjoy eating out, travelling and time spent with my friends.
