The Quarterly 2012

Welcome
On behalf of the CEP committee, I would like to welcome you to a new RACMA CEP year. As is usual at this time of year, Fellows and Associate Fellows are required to have logged their mandatory CEP activities for 2011 on the RACMA eCEP website. Last year we achieved 89% compliance for Fellows. This year the target is 100%. CEP is a requirement both of the College and of AHPRA.

eCEP Annual and Triennial Certification
Maintenance of CEP is a requirement of the Medical Board of Australia for maintenance of specialist registration, and of the College for maintenance of good standing. The Medical Board has indicated that they intend to audit medical practitioners for proof of compliance with CEP.

In order to assist this process, RACMA has instituted electronic CEP, which makes it easy for all Fellows, and Associate Fellows to log activities online. We have moved primarily to an annual cycle over a calendar year. Fellows require 50 points pa and Associate Fellows 25 points of administrative activities. Details of qualifying activities and Standards are on the Activity table available here. There is also the capacity to save evidence of CEP activities onto the RACMA website which will be extremely useful in the event of an audit.

The annual cycle follows the calendar year. All CEP activities for the calendar year must be logged by March 31 of the following year. Hence for the 2011 calendar year, all CEP activities must be logged by 31 March 2012 in order to receive an annual certificate for 2011. Jurisdictional CEP Coordinators will contact non-compliant Fellows in April 2012.

The CEP Committee is aware that Associate Fellows are often enrolled for CEP requirements with another College. As an alternative to the formal recording of CEP using eCEP, we will be trialling an alternative form of recording using a Survey Monkey CEP Survey. Associate Fellows completing this will be credited with 25 points of CEP, which achieves their RACMA requirements. The 2011 Associate Fellow CEP Survey Tool will be distributed in March. The triennium is also being maintained. This is the sum of three annual CEP cycles and is standardised. The 2011-13 triennium commenced on 1 Jan 2011. At the end of the triennium, certificates will be issued to all participants. A peer review activity is a compulsory requirement for the triennium.

In Summary

  • Fellows must record 50 points of 2011 CEP activity using the eCEP tool by 31 March 2012.
  • Associate Fellows must record 25 points of 2011 CEP activity using the eCEP tool or the 2011 Associate Fellow CEP Survey Tool by 31 March 2012.
  • For the convenience of members, evidence for RACMA and AHPRA audits can be attached to the eCEP database.
